Car manufacturing companies are always on the treadmill of releasing new automobiles every time to keep them at the top of their game. Many times, some concept cars get produced but do not make it to the production phase and into the market.
At auto shows, many automakers show concept cars that never make it to the auto market for one reason or the other. Many cars do not make it to the market sheerly because they were not produced for the market, just for the exhibition of design. Here are five interesting cars that never made it to the market:
1. 2010 Audi Quattro Concept Car:
To mark the 30th year in the system, Audi in 2010 produced the 2010 Audi Quattro Concept Car and showed it in the Paris motor show. It was a modern version of the Quattro Rally Car. A large percentage of the body was produced using carbon fiber, making the body light. It was created based on the Audi RS5, it features a modified 2.5L five-cylinder TFSI engine and the sixth generation of Quattro transmission giving out 403hp. Sadly this concept car was produced around the time when the world market collapsed, making them shelve the concept car.
2. 2016 Jeep Wrangler Trailcat:
The Jeep Wrangler is known for their offroading abilities. The Jeep Wrangler Trailcat fuses these off-roading abilities with a hellcat engine. The Trailcat had “the heart of a hellcat” as its tagline. It produces 707hp from its 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine. It has a 6 speed manual transmission.
3. 2007 Dodge Demon:
The 2007 Dodge Demon first debuted in 2007 at the Geneva Auto Show. The Dodge Demon made by Chrysler was equipped with a 2.4 litre inline-4 engine that produced 172 horsepower. It was a rear wheel drive car with a 6 speed manual transmission. It was a two door roadster with front engine and a rear wheel drive train.
4. 2015 Toyota S-FR:
The Toyota S-FR was patented in 2015 by Toyota, possibly to prevent knockoffs by the Japanese Market. Toyota did not release a lot of details about the car. It is equipped with a front mounted engine with a rear wheel drive train alongside a lightweight construction. The car was powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers a total of 128 horsepower. It has a 6 speed manual transmission and could get as high as 55 miles on a gallon.
5. The Lamborghini Asterion
This was a concept car that did not make it to production. It was produced using high grade materials such as aluminium, forged carbon fiber and titanium. It produces 897hp. In eV mode, it has a top speed of 78mph, while on gas, it reaches a top speed of 199mph and hits 60 mph in just 3 seconds. It was known as the “hybridised rocketship”.
Many reasons exist why cars do not make it to the production stage, it could be finance-related, legal-related, emissions control-related, or just that the company decides not to make it available for the public. At car shows, many car enthusiasts are more excited about the concept cars due to their rarity. Some “would be” cars that never were.
