5 Things You Didn’t Know About Electric Vehicles Minutes ago

Electric vehicles (EVs) are an emerging trend especially among elites and millennials and are tagged the future of clean transportation.

Here are 5 Interesting things you did not know about electric vehicles minutes ago.

1. EVs are cost effective

When speaking about cars, cost-effectiveness is always related to fuel economy, but what happens when the car doesn’t have to use fuel? The average EV is at least 3 times more cost-effective than a regular internal combustion engine vehicle. Research shows that every $1 spent on energy for an EV is equivalent to about $3.10 spent on an internal combustion engine vehicle.

2. Efficiency is measured in MPGe:

For electric vehicles, the efficiency is measured in miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent, while internal combustion engine vehicles are measured in miles per gallon. The 2020 Tesla model S for example has an MPGe rating of 111, meaning that the energy equivalent to burning one gallon of fuel would push the car 111miles forward, as against 30-40 done by the average internal combustion engine vehicle.

3. First EV was made in 1832:

The first electric vehicle was produced in 1832 by Robert Anderson, it was crude at the time and was not practical until around 1870. At this time, horses were the primary means of transportation. EVs became widespread among women at the time.

4. About 10 million EVs are on the road currently

This number might seem exaggerated a little, but to put it in perspective, in 2020 alone, about 1 million EVs were sold in China. In March 2021 alone, about 122,000 new EVs were sold in the US.

5. Tesla roadster is faster than most supercars:

Many mid-range cars accelerate from 0-60 mph in about 4.5 seconds, supercars like a Lamborghini or a Ferrari do it in about 2.5-2.9 seconds, however, the Tesla roadster makes it in 1.9 seconds which is actually mind-numbing.
