1. Buckeye Bullet 3 – 549.43 km/h
The Buckeye Bullet is a series of experimental electric cars created by Ohio State University students as a joint project with Venturi. Why does this car occupy the top spot in our list of 5 fast electric cars you should know about? The cars are designed to break the land speed record on the Bonneville Speedway, a salt flat just outside Wendover, Utah, United States.
The Buckeye Bullet 1 is a battery-electric powered land speed race car, and the first from the Buckeye Bullet team.
The Buckeye Bullet 1 held the record for the world’s fastest electric car, with a top recorded speed of 321.834 mph (517.942 km/h). It held the U.S. electric land speed record at 314.958 mph (508.485 km/h) (Class III/E). It set a BNI (non-FIA) recognized international record at 271.737 mph (437.318 km/h) on October 3, 2004.

The Buckeye Bullet 3 is the final iteration of the project, building on the technology of the previous vehicles. It is a 4-wheel drive and has a drag coefficient of 0.13. The car has separate powertrains for each axle, with the cockpit in the center. Each powertrain has two electric motors driving a 2-speed transmission, built by Hewland. 1st gear can be used up to 275mph. On September 19, 2016, the Buckeye Bullet 3 achieved a new world record with a speed of 341.4 mph (549.43 km/h), beating its own previous record of 308 mph (495.14 km/h). Roger Schroer was the driver for the record-breaking run.
2. Toroidion 1MW – 400km/h
Toroidion is an aspiring Finnish car manufacturer domiciled in Pojo, Raseborg. In 2015 Toroidion introduced a concept car: the electric supercar 1MW Concept. Toroidion Ltd claimed to have solved core problems that have prevented making electric cars practical, but evidence of this claim has not emerged.
The 1MW produces 1,341 hp (1,000 kW; 1,360 PS). Each wheel is powered by its own motor. The front wheels each have 268 hp; 272 PS (200 kW) motors and the rear wheels each have 402 hp; 408 PS (300 kW) motors. The car is capable of accelerating from 0 to 400 km/h (249 mph) in 11 seconds which is just super amazing. The battery of the car is of rapid-swap and high-capacity type.
3. Nio EP9 – 350km/h
The NIO EP9 is an electric-powered, two-seat sports car manufactured by NIO, assisted by their Formula E racing division. It holds several track records.
Each of the EP9’s wheels has its own motor and transmission. Each motor has 250 kW (335.25 hp), giving the car a total power output of 1 MW (1,341 hp; 1,360 PS). The EP9 is both all-wheel drive and individual-wheel drive. The car has an advanced torque vectoring system that can adjust the power output to each wheel.
The EP9’s battery can last up to 427 km (265 miles) before it needs to be charged. Recharging takes 45 minutes, and battery replacement takes 8 minutes.
The EP9 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.7 seconds, 200 km/h (124 mph) in 7.1 seconds, and 300 km/h (186 mph) in 15.9 seconds. The car can achieve a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph).
4. Genovation GXE – 340km/h
Like other electric vehicles, the amount of power the GXE produces does come at the cost of range. The car, one of the 75 to be sold to prospective customers, packs a 60-kWh battery pack that gives the electric ‘Vette a meager range of about 130 miles (209 kilometers). However, the twin-motor powertrain delivers a whopping 800-plus horsepower (597-plus kW) and over 700 pound-feet (949 Newton-meters) of torque.
The GXE has an 8-speed automatic transmission which enables it to go from 0 to 340km/hr. Genovation’s website says the GXE is capable of speeds higher than 220 mph, but that’s a goal rather than a right-now reality. As seen in the video, the car is making steady progress, but it’s still limited to just below 212 mph. We have absolutely no doubt the team will eventually get to 354km/hr.
5. Formula E (2nd Gen) – 280 km/h
The Formula E car is an open-wheel auto racing electric car, powered by an electric motor. The Formula E car is designed to take part in the FIA Formula E Championship.
The Formula E 2nd gen which has a total weight of 800kg (driver inclusive), flows easily on the race track as it has a top speed of 280km/hr.
